Rats and Mice are very popular pets. For a healthy & happy life for your pet:

  • Offer a large range of fresh vegetables daily, and occasional fruits. Supplement this with a quality rat or mouse pellet (ideally) or mix
  • Desex all non-breeding mice and rats. Female rats and mice not desexed are extremely prone to mammary tumours. Male rats can also develop these cancers but not as commonly
  • Provide an enclosure with lots of ventilation to help prevent the progression of respiratory diseases - common illnesses of pet rats and mice
  • Offer a variety of enclosure furniture for environmental enrichment. Cardboard tubes and boxes, plastic pipes and branches provide your pet with things to do. An empty enclosure = a boring prison cell
  • Visit a veterinarian experienced in dealing with unusual pets for a regular health check for your per rat or mouse
