Fast Ferret Facts  - The Basics on Ferret Care

  • Ferrets are strict carnivores. Feed a diet high in meat-based protein and low in fibre. Offer meaty bones or strips of meat weekly to help keep the teeth clean. Talk to us regarding suitable diets
  • Desex your ferret. Females not bred will go into a continuous heat and may become anaemic and die. Entire male ferrets will become very smelly
  • Ferrets are prone to Heartworm Disease - use a heartworm preventative
  •  The distemper virus is invariable fatal for ferrets. Vaccinate your ferret
  • Scent (anal) glands should not be removed from ferrets
  • Once or twice yearly veterinary checks are recommended
  • Older ferrets are prone to heart failure, various cancers and dental disease
