Tweet Tweet …. we are now on Twitter!

We now have several Twitter accounts - each separate account deals with a particular species or group of animals. Twitter is a social media tool for posting (each post is called a tweet) short snippets or facts to 'followers'.

We have decided to experiment with Twitter as a method to give clients short, sharp facts and pet care advice. Please let us know if you like it: by 'following' us or sending a tweet to one of our Twitter accounts.

Our current Twitter accounts include: @TheReptileVet, @TheRabbitVet, @TheGuineaPigVet, @TheAmphibianVet, @TheRatMouseVet…. with more to come. Search for our tweets via Twitter.com or follow us via the links on our website.

Continuing Eductation - Never stop learning!

Did you know we attend several conferences per year to remain on the cutting edge of exotic pet medicine?

Not only do we attend conferences to learn about exciting advances but also to present information to our colleagues and provide teaching to veterinarians and veterinary students.

Here are some recent highlights:

  • January 2010: Brendan attended the North American Veterinary Conference http://www.tnavc.org as an invited speaker. He presented several talk on rabbit topics as well as helping out with a teaching class. This was an amazing opportunity as each day the total conference delegate numbers was more than 13,500!
  •  October 2009: The annual Unusual and Exotic Pet Veterinarian conference was held in Sydney. Brendan presented a talk on 'The Healthy Rabbit', as well as chairing a session.
  • October 2009: Jacinta attended the Association of Avian Veterinarians Australasian Committee annual conference. Renowned overseas avian veterinarians attended. The Keynote speaker was John Chitty from England
Upcoming events:

  • May 2010: Brendan will present at the Pan-Pacific Veterinary Conference. This is a combined conference for Australian and New Zealand Veterinarians. See: http://www.panpac2010.com/
  • July 2010. Exotics Lectures for veterinary students and James Cook University, Townsville. Brendan will present 9 lectures on various aspects of small mammal medicine and surgery.
This is only a small sample of the events we attend each year, with anything between 4 and 10 attended annually. Our aim is to be up with the current research and health care for unusual pets - so you can benefit from the best of care!

Oxbow Guinea Pig Pellets

Oxbow Guinea Pig Pellets are selling like.... quality guinea pig food!

These pellets are the ONLY pellets we recommend for guinea pigs. They are preferred by most exotic pet veterinarians worldwide. Why?

  • They are pellets. Guinea pig mixes (any brand) are not good: the pig will pick out bits & pieces - usually the 'bad' food item such as fatty, high calorie, low fibre items such as nuts or seeds.
  • They are made by Oxbow. The leading company for rabbit and guinea pig commercial diets. The same company that produces Critical Care for Herbivores: used worldwide by exotic pet veterinarians.
  • They are concentrated. Feed less, save more.
  • NOTE: We recommend the ideal diet for healthy guinea pigs consists at least 80% of Hay, Grass, fibrous plants and vegetables.
So call in or phone us to order a bag of these great pellets.  We have had fantastic results with the use of these pellets in debilitated or sick guinea pigs.

Until the net update........   Brendan
